Your Sanford, NC Certified Invisalign Provider

Consider Invisalign treatment to get the beautiful straight teeth you've always wanted — without braces. A complimentary consultation with our Sanford orthodontists, Drs. Brian and Lynn Smith, can determine if Invisalign clear aligners are right for you.

Invisalign is an excellent option for adult patients who have mild spacing or crowding of the front teeth. We often see patients who had comprehensive orthodontic treatment in their teenage years, and then have had some relapse (post-treatment tooth movement) some years later. These patients often seek to make aesthetic improvements to their smile, but do not want to wear conventional fixed braces. At Smith & Smith Orthodontics, we are proud to offer Invisalign treatment for these patients.

For Invisalign treatment to be successful, careful pre-treatment planning is needed. Drs. Smith and Smith personally review each case and prescribe the specific dental movements so that you achieve the excellent outcome you deserve.

What is it?

Invisalign treatment uses a series of virtually invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that allow you to smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign clear aligners are made with 3D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to administer Invisalign treatment, including Drs. Brian and Lynn Smith!

The ideal Invisalign patient has to be highly motivated to wear the aligners—without excellent compliance with wearing the aligners, this type of treatment will not ultimately be successful. Dr. Smith works hard to help patients understand if they would be a good Invisalign patient or if they would be better served with highly aesthetic ceramic braces.

Why would I want it?

Not only are the aligners virtually invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also more comfortable than traditional braces, with no metal or wires, which also usually means you spend less time at Smith & Smith Orthodontics getting adjustments.

Invisalign treatment also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete. We use advanced digital imaging to help identify your concerns and form a treatment plan, including how much active treatment time is involved and what types of retainers will be needed when you complete treatment.

How does it work?

You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to their final positions. You'll visit our Sanford, NC orthodontic office about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Full orthodontic treatment is usually completed in nine to 15 months, but minor aesthetic cases often only take four to six months to complete!

At the conclusion of Invisalign treatment, Dr. Smith will go over retainers, which are typically worn at night. However, some patients may prefer bonded retainers, which consist of small wire segments bonded to the inner surfaces of the front teeth. These bonded retainers can offer excellent long-term stability without the hassle of having to remember to put in a removable appliance each night.
